I have been very impressed with the EWI DIs from AudioPile.net

I have four of the single channel versions. I have four of the Countryman Type 85s and I think the EWIs are just as good.
http://www.audiopile.net/products/DI...cutsheet.shtml $50

And I will be purchasing one of the new 2-channel versions shortly.

That is a very attractive price, what do other people think about this?

late response here, but for those searching for info on direct boxes I will add my $.02USD.

If you want the best sounding DI my vote is Radial. I own three of them, I am a kb player. But my first question is are you running a stereo house or IEMs? Just wondering about the requirement for stereo.

If you've never held a Radial in your hand, you need to do that. Built like a tank! First class. That's why groups like the Eagles and Stones specify them. They cost more and they are absolutely worth it. (IMHO) Their sonic fidelity is where they shine.

Pete

I like the Whirlwind Director DI because they are well built, does not color the sound like many DIs, and it is tech-rider friendly.

I have one of the 2-channel versions, which they call the Director II. I've used it on lots of keyboards. I also use it for CD players, VCRs, and computers.

Is Radial that much better that it deserves the 70$ over ?

Thank you for your insights.
Radial is a gold standard in the live sound biz; there are other good ones, but you really can't go wrong with a Radial Pro-series. The JDIs are top-of-the-line (and $200 apiece).

As for the Whirlwind IMP-2, we use its Made-in-China little brother, the Connect EDB1, on keyboards and bass. No problems with it, and they're cheap ($30 online MAP).

Keyboard DI

Have used several mentioned here and IMHO the Radial wins hands down. Use it nonstop and have never had an issue with it after several years. Went the cheap route too trying to save the dollars, but trust me, eventually you will spend the same if not more to keep working ones. The Radials I have never had to replace let alone repair. And if you still need convincing, check out their warranty on their website.

For a source with an active live level output (such as most keyboards), I'd go with a passive DI. Radial Pro series if you have the bucks, Audiopile.net if you need to be extra frugal.
