Question about FireWire interfaces

Hello everyone. I was wondering about which FireWire interface to get to record 12-13 channels of audio from the inserts on my church's console (Allen & Heath GL2400-32) straight into Logic Studio or ProTools (haven't decided yet). The direct outs on the console are already being used by our Aviom IEM system. Any advice? Thanks!

A couple of things to consider...
1: What FW chipset do you have
2: Are you willing to look at a PCI based option?

FW based products, I'd probably go with PreSonus and their FireStudio, and though it provides twice the I/O you're looking at using now, you've got room to grow without adding another device to the FW chain.

PCI based solutions, I've always been a user of Mark of the Unicorn products.

You'll want to get a custom insert/pass-through cable to properly use your inserts as sources, and also understand that you'll need to add processing.

As for Logic Studio or ProTools, I don't use either, as I've been a MOTU Digital Performer guy since '87 or so.

Probably wouldn't be able to go PCI since I would be using my MacBook Pro to record to. If you wouldn't mind, tell me more about the reason for the cable and the signal processing. Sorry, I'm new to the recording side.

Some Aviom interfaces have pass-thrus so the direct outs can be sent elsewhere.

Processing - the signal recorded from the Insert would be dry - no EQ, direct off the mic-pre or the line in. So, you'll need to add EQ to taste as well as stereo placement depending on what the end purpose of the audio is.
Pass-Thru Cable - On the Insert, the tip sends +, ring returns +, sleeve is neutral. On a pass-thru cable, the tip and ring are hardwired together so that the send/return loop is immediate, yet signal is still present at the other end of the cable for use with a recording or Aviom interface.

If you want to record that many tracks via firewire, I would buy a Presonus Studio Live 16.4.2. That will be the best way. It will come with Capture software, allowing you to multitrack up to 24 tracks into the Mac. You can then use the StudioOne Artist software to slice, dice and mix your production. The session opens instantly in StudioOne. If you have PT or something else, you cannot open the Capture session directly, but you can export the Capture files to wav files and import those into PT.

If you do not have and really know any software now, I highly recommend Studio One Professional. It is truly great. It is lean and mean, and it is easier on your computer's processors than PT.

I have been a ProTools HD guy since 2002. I also run StudioOne Pro, Reaper and Samplitude for various applications (recording bands, producing religious TV and radio audio). Studio One is very powerful, very fast and LEAN.

Would it be possible to just use a FireStudio Project because I do not need a full console. Just something to get signal from our console to whatever DAW software I end up choosing.
