We have a Sony Minidisc recorder that I would like to incorporate into recording our services but still use the cd recording too at same time. How and where do I hook up the Sony minidisc recorder to a Mackie VLZ Pro 34 channel sound board to be able to record the services with? Thanks, Tim

I assume you're using tape out for recording to CD. It looks like you can use C-R Outs (control room outputs) or Mono Output for Minidisc recording. Do you have an owner's manual for the mixer? If not, I suggest you go to Mackie's Website and download it. Mackie's owner's manuals are famous for being very informative and easy to understand.

We record onto both minidisk and cassette tape at the same time. We use the same output from our mixer desk (an AUX out) to feed both recorders. The reason we use two recording devices is for backup. The cassette tape is there for historical reasons and we have been recording digitally for a while now using Audacity and this will replace the cassette recorder in due time. We will probably retain the minidisk for backup purposes just in case the PC crashes during the service! We currently use the minidisk as the master to produce our CD-ROMs. Why don't we record directly to CD-ROM? Basically, our services go on longer than can be recorded onto a CD-ROM directly without a bit of editing! Yes, we can start and stop recording at appropriate times etc. but this introduces additional hassle for the audio engineers.
