Question about the Sony RCD-W500C

I've been looking at this item online and was wonderering if it allows you to record to CD from an external source?

Anyone currently using the Sony RCD-W500C to record your services and create CD(s)?

Any complaints?

Any Praise?

Thanks
Steve

Steve,

We purchased one a few months ago and only quit using it regularly because we switched to a computer. We still have it and it will be used this Sunday. As long as the external source has RCA jacks, it will accept them.

The only complaint I have is that it will only record to Music specific CDs. Other than that, and being a little tricky to learn to use (it isn't real bad as long as you read the instructions and have a little patience) I don't have a problem with it. The RCD-W500C won't compare that well with a higher end CD recorder, but for our small church, it works great.

I also use one of these units. It works really well for us. Only time we have problems is when we forget to clean it after a while. It doesn't like that too much.

We use one and it works great--most of the time. Sometimes, for no apparent reason (at least to us ) it will either quit recording in the middle of the service or will not finalize the CD at the end of the recording. Then, you have to play it from the recording deck onto another recording source (like a tape recorder) and then back to CD for another try.

However, for the price, it is what it is. I might try cleaning ours, though. . . .

Cleaning it at least every 6 months is a good idea.

Thanks everyone - I purchased a unit and it should arrive today.

BTW: If anyone else is looking for one go to Sonystyle - (Sony's Online store) and look in the Outlet.

Refurbs are being sold for $149

Good deal. I don't know what anyone else is using but we've had really good success with Maxell music cd's. I've used Memorex in the past and they're the only brand I'll use at home but we've yet to have any troubles with the Maxells.

When mastering to CD, make sure you use a SLOW speed disc (4x - 8x) to record to. Then after that, you can use the high speed discs to duplicate with.

I have read my manual but can't find anywhere how to clean. It may be a 'dumb' question, but how do you clean this recorder.

You go to Walmart and buy the thing in the blank CD and DVD aisle that says it's a CD and DVD device cleaner. Basically it's a CD with one or two little brushes on the bottom.

Glad to Find this Site AND this Thread because ....

We are a very small church. We purchased this Recorder (because I read it to be the better of those we could afford).

Well, the first time we tried to record the service silly me didn't have "Audio/Music" cds .... just "regular" cds. However as co1722 this is "normal"

The next service the device quit recording right in the middle of the service ........ well about 15 minutes in. And as Rob44 points out, this too is "normal"

With a standard "Audio/Music" cd is there enough space on the cd to record an hour long service?

Am I missing anything else?

Mark
