Unhappy Aviom Noise

Does anyone else have a loud background noise in the aviom? It kind of sounds like a waterfall to best describe it. I doesn't matter if I turn the volumes down or turn gains down, its still there.

So with the master volume all the way down the noise is still there. Does the master volume or channel volume affect the noise in any way? Does the unit still make the noise when there is no cat5 attached (no anet, you can power the unit with the supplied ac adapter). Is this problem isolated to one unit or is it all of them. How old are the units. Is this a new problem?

The master volume does affect the noise. I am noticing it on all the units. The units are about 2 years old now. They are the A-16II's. To me it sounds like I have the gain too high, but the volumes for each channel are not low by any means. I guess it could be a grounding issue, but I'm not sure.

Does the noise still happen when the mixer is not connected to the network (no cat5 just powered by ac wall power). Does the noise happen when the musicians are not playing? What is your set up?

To add to the questions, are you sure your gain structure is set up correctly. Typically you don't want to have the master volume up very high. This will tend to elevate the noise floor of the units. You want to drive each input as hard as you can without clipping. This should allow you to run the master a little lower and lessen the Waterfall that you are hearing.

I haven't tried unplugging the cat5 yet. I'll give that a shot. As far as the master volume, yeah it is a little higher than I would like it to be. I will take a look at the gain structure as well.

Have you guys had this problem before?

The Avioms are notoriously noisy. If you are not cranking the audio in to the Anet then you will have to crank the noisy Headphone amp. If you are going further than 12 o'clock on the headphone amp then you need to get the gain structure set better on the front end.

I will work on the gain structure and let you guys know if that solved it. I'm doubting it is a cable issue or a single unit issue since all of the units do it.
