usb not working on yamaha ls9

hi,
recently at my church we purchased a yamaha ls9-32 desk and we are having some trouble with the usb port. We have purchased a usb that is on the yamaha approved list and when we insert the usb it reads it and comes up and we are able to play back music and after about a few minutes of playback the drive un mounts it self and we get a error message saying 'error usb device busy' and 'usb device unmounted'. We have got the latest firmware v1.30. Has anyone else had this issue and how where you able to fix it?

Some drives have weird security stuff on them. Reformat the USB drive and copy the files back on to it.

There are two possibilities, one is that a bad usb drive got through QC at the plant in China where they are made, or there could be extra stuff like Windows and Mac software on there that's causing an issue. Like Tim I would say reformat the drive, if that doesn't work the drive might be defective.

I'll try formatting a drive when im there wednesday, but we have tried several other drives as well and they all have the same result.

Also we rang up yamaha about this and they said the usb socket is faulty? cause the drive shouldn't just disappear...

If you've tried several drives, I tend to agree that it's likely the console's USB. Unless all of the drives you tried were loaded by the same PC - could be something in the computer that's the problem.

I'd call the Yamaha rep and tell him what's up.

Ours works, but we got a USB extension that we keep plugged in to the board and plug the USB drives in to the end of that. If we wear out the plug on the extension, we just have to replace the extension, rather than having to have the board serviced to replace the on-board port.

Good idea. I recommend against the repeated use of the connectors on power amps (and other gear) for the same reason - whenever it's practical, connect them to a panel on the rack, and use the panel.
