Where To Tie In FX Unit

Our church has a Soundcraft GB4 mixer. I want to be able to use an Alesis NanoVerb on several of the selected channels. Where do I connect the FX unit so that it affects, say, 5 vocalist mics and nothing else? Thanks for your help.

Probably the most common approach would be to assign those sources to a Group, or Groups if you run stereo, and then put the effects unit on the insert(s) for that Group(s).

A second option is to assign the sources to a Group, run the Group output into the effects unit and then the output of the effects unit into one or two inputs.

A third option is to use an aux send to the effects unit and run the output(s) of the effects unit back into input channel(s). The advantage of this approach is that you can adjust the level to the effects unit independently for each source.

Thank you for your suggestions. I think I like the third option. Will give that a try this Sunday.

In going with option 3, I would use one of aux 5-8 busses and make sure that the Pre button is out so that the buss is Post Fader. This allows you to set the aux send levels equally for the channels that you want to go to your effects and the mix that you set on your faders will set the mix going to the FX unit.

RTFM (Read The Friendly Manual). It will suggest option 3, and you'll pick up other useful information to help you in your audio ministry.

Always good advice! But the reason I put it out here is that you guys work in the "real world" with on the job experience, and often find better ways of doing things than the manuals suggest.
