http://www.digidesign.com/index.cfm?...0&itemid=6682# No idea about the price, but it looks like it is meant to compete with a Yamaha LS9 or Roland M400. Fully compatible with the rest of the D-Show Venue series, but smaller and cheaper. Looks REALLY sweet!

I think one of the key things to remember about this new Digi board is that it contains the exact same electronics as their other boards, same pres, same a/d and d/a convertors and it uses the same software. With some other companies when you buy one of their lesser priced digital consoles you are getting completly different software and completly different electronics. This is a great value here.

I think it is great that A&H, Digidesign, Soundcraft, etc. are coming out with digital consoles that are viable for many more churches. However, in deference to the previous comment, I believe that most of these new digital console offerings are essentially downscaled, less flexible versions of existing products, an approach the manufacturers apparently can offer at a cost competitive with the Yamaha M7CL. Getting down into the LS9, TT24 and M400 range would probably require not only completely new designs but in some cases possibly also different distribution, marketing and support models. That then likely becomes a matter of market share and cost/benefit rather than just a technical issue. Maybe it will happen, but it could be a bigger step and risk for some manufacturers.

| I had a preview of the SC48 recently and one was left in my hands. I personally use a DShow venue console as well as the Profile, I can tell you after using the SC48 it is 100% the same converters, micpres, sound quality, processing engine, etc that the larger Venue boards are. Although it only has (2) DSP cards and can not be expanded, you can still run plenty of TDM plugins---no other console can do this. While there is no remote snake, this is meant for those needing lesser features or mixing monitors. I have a client that is wanting a couple of these for mixing monitors, another client that wants one for their youth room, and another client wanting one for FOH to replace their aging analog desk. THe great thing about the Venue SC48 from Digidesign and the iLive T-series from Allen & Heath is that they are identical in operation and function as their larger versions. A few other boards that are mentioned above are NOT---they don't work the same, they don't open the same sessions, etc. The SC48 is an amazing mixing console.

Uh....the economy isn't as hot right now as it was. It could be a demo. Avid's stock performance has been less than stellar for a long time. Digidesign has been the only division making money for Avid. It could be anything. Digi makes the best digital platform out there IMO.

There is a reason why those cheap digital boards are cheap. They cut a bunch of corners. In the case of the TT24, they do not work as advertised all of the time. Mackie has poor support and historically drops digital product support faster than Sony.
