Earbuds for clear-com

We recently added a roving camera down on the floor infront of the stage. We are getting feedback from the people up front that they can hear the clear-com conversation.

I was thinking maybe I could just get some earbuds for the op. Anyone use earbuds with a clear-com system? If so, where did you get them?
What do you use to keep from being heard by the congregation that is sitting close?

Thanks

Wow! I'm guessing your rover isn't wearing a circumaural noise-isolating model. That would be my first choice.

What kind of headphone connector do you have on your belt pack? 1/4" phono or XLR?

We use THIS headset. No issue with being able to hear it unless you are the one wearing it.

What make/model of Clear-Com beltpack do you have (if any)?

How does the Clear-Com signal get to the user? Via a multi-pin camera cable? Via a seperate XLR cable?

Bob beat me to it. You need to use a headphone with a noise-cancelling circumaural design (completely enclosing the ear) like the model Bob linked to.

I figured that would do it but wanted to be sure.
Anything gained by doing a double ear in this application?

I've never used two muff headsets and I don't think they would be good unless you really want/need to block most of the ambient sound to the camera op. You could feed program into the com system but to me that would be annoying too. I can also imagine constantly needing to take one muff off to talk to people (not so much during the program but still).

It would be great to hear from others with actual experience using them.

Double-Muffs are generally used for a non-handheld cameras (Studio Config, Jib, Dolly, etc.) where there is a lot of noise or high PA system SPLs making it hard for the cameraman to hear the Director.

I've used the earbuds in situations where the camera op does not have to talk back to the director and they work GREAT for hearing in very noisy situations as well as preventing nearby people from overhearing the conversation. I have a source that sells the adapter to go from the 4-pin to the 1/8 headphone connector so you can use/choose your own earbuds.

But I agree with Petereit and what he's saying about using the headphone that completely covers the ear in lieu of the lightweight headset that you are using.

Our roving cameras always use double muffs. Of course with probably 130db+ on stage they have to have it to keep out ambient noise and hear.

We also sometimes when it gets really loud give them in ears and put noise canceling headphones over the top.
