I wanted to give you guys a little interesting perception on the mic I am currently using. Do you think this other mic would work better, then let me know and I'll get this one listed on craigslist asap.

such a difference between outside and inside -

What do you think about maybe a wireless lapel mic? Price and portability?

Other mic would work worlds better. Lavs are always nice to have around but shotguns are quick, as long as you have an extra set of hands. You should really have both in your kit and possibly use both. One on each audio channel so you can decide in post which to use. I can definitely understand the financial issue so i would recommend getting a good shotgun over a lav for just about any setup.

Worlds difference!

Don't be afraid to do some eq work as well. Even the best mic will need some touch up. Start with a High Pass filter. That may be all you need. From what i heard it sounded great...of course i'm just listening through PC speakers right now.

Hope you are feeling the value of a good Shotgun mic now. Really helps zero in on the subject and pull them out of the ambient noise.

Thanks so much. What exactly does an High Pass filter do? I have seen the thing in the Audio filters in Final Cut Pro.

Yes it works great and we are blessed to know God opened the door for this.

High Pass is just to get the rumble out of the sound. You will usually have a frequency adjustment and thats all on a HPF. You can end up making the sound really thin if you roll it up to far but as long as you keep it in the 80-180Hz range you should be fine. The big reason for using it is removing mechanical noise from the mic being coupled to a stand which is coupled to a floor that is couple to machinery. even with the best suspension you are still going to want to use a HPF just to get rid of unwanted sound down there.
