Broascasting audio problems

I am Broadcasting our services to ustream with a GL2. The audio is coming from the omni out #4 on our LS9 console. The problem i am having is that the sound clips on the camer during the music. its fine with the speaking but the music is just to loud. I have gone through every setting and i am missing something. please help. I will include a shot of the screen for the piano, maybe you will be able to see what i am missing.

I assume you can put a compressor on the output?

What signal is routed to omni out #4?
1.) Is it a Vari Mix (aux)?
2.) Is it a Fixed Mix (group)?
3.) Is it a Matrix?
4.) Or is it on of the Masters (Left, Right, or Mono)?

In any case, you have one of two options:
a.) Either reduce the entire volume so the music does not clip.
b.) OR apply a compressor to the output that will reduce the volume of the loud parts, but keep the volume level of the quieter parts the same.
(Actually, there is option c. too in which you might be able to split the broadcast into 2 or more submixes like vocals & instruments to reduce instrument volume while maintaining vocal volume or something, but I get the feeling that might be a little too much for you, and I don't think it would benefit you anyway.)

To add a compressor to the broadcast mix (option b.), the omni out would need to be patched to a different signal than the FOH mix (in other words, if FOH is LR, the broadcast mix would need to be either M, a mix, or a matrix). That way the broadcast signal processing (adding a compressor) would not alter FOH sound and vice versa.

To just reduce the volume out of Omni out #4 (option a.), you can just adjust the omni out attenuation (adjustable from -96 - + 24 dB. See pages 97 & 98 of the LS9 manual.)

That might have been more information than you wanted right now.
If you have questions, the first thing I need to know to answer intelligently is what signal is routed to omni #4.

that is my biggest question. how do i figure out what is routed to omni out 4. I am very experienced with analog consoles but this is my first foray into the digital world. I have been working on this for weeks and i just cant seem to get it.

See the LS9 Manual, Chapter 9 - Input/output patching (Page 95).

Are you routing the audio out of the mixer through an impedance adapter into the camera? This matches the impedance of the mixer with that of the camera, allows input via XLR, and provides more control of the audio signal into the camera. When I used this set up regularly, I would still have to turn the signal from the board way down from typical levels. Before I brought in this set up with a GL2 years ago, the church had not been able to get quality sound onto their video capture.

Beachtek DXA-4 for a GL2
