It's amazing how much Behringer gear swings either way. I've used one of their powered mixers for over 5 years, and never had a problem. Also, I've used their EP 4000 amp for two years and never had a problem. Crazy, huh? Too bad they couldn't fix that problem.

so behringer isn't all that bad if your lucky i guess

next question would be .. would do I need to put the kick drum and bass guitar into the system ??? is that where subwoofer comes into play ?? I've also been hearing crossover when subwoofers are mentioned ... what are crossovers ?

ive check wikipedia and it explains it "divide" the output to low mid and high frequency and sending it to appropriate speakers ... but still I didn't get the full sense of using a crossover

Subwoofers are intended to reproduce only the lowest frequencies, typically from 30-40Hz up to 80-150Hz (many will argue that a true subwoofer would normally operate only up to 100Hz or lower). This allows speakers designed solely for that purpose to be used and takes the 'load' of reproducing those frequencies off of the main speakers.

A crossover is in its most basic sense a set of high and low pass filters, in this case one high pass filter to send the higher frequencies to the main speakers and one low pass to route the lower frequencies to the subwoofer.

Many speakers have integral crossovers, for example a typical 12" or 15" woofer and tweeter box will have an internal passive crossover between the low frequency woofer and high frequency tweeter, it is there but you don't even really know it. For subwoofers, some subs do have such passive crossovers built-in, but in most cases you need to use an external device.

Cw4u: yeah it seems like if you get one that lasts 30 days it lasts forever. I love the value but I wish they could fix the "lemon" problem. Maybe a better QC process or something...

I'm happy yours has been working so well though!

Given your budget,

Mains: A pair of EV ZXA-1
Sub: JBL JRX118SP
Crossover: dbx 223XL
Mixer: Soundcraft EMP8-8

That's around $2200 which leaves you some room for cabling and stands.

I second cw4u's statement. I have sold a metric ton of the ZX1 and ZXA1 this year and not a single person has complained about them. Actually three of those customers bought MORE for fellowship halls and monitors.

How many inputs do you have though? You might need something bigger than the soundcraft EPM-8.

@cw4u - how about equalizers ? do I need one ?
- so a pair of main speakers will suffice ? no need to install another pair at the middle for the ppl at the back ?

- speaker placement would be the same where we place our existing speakers ?

I don't think you'll need any more speakers than that. The speaker has 800W in them with about 300W for overhead from what I remember. So, you'll have plenty enough for the size of your congregation.

You could use an EQ, but IMO, I don't find it necessary in your case. You could always order it later.

I honestly think good stands and and cable would be well worth waiting on the EQ. Also, if you need more channels, then you'll need a larger mixer.
