I thought I'd give an update. We bought the adapters and cables needed to run the instrument monitor through the driverack which gave us eq control over both sets of monitors and the mains. The drummer brought in a new kit this week so that created another variable but all in all the sound was much cleaner by cutting the lows in the mics. The drums and bass are a little loud for the rest of the mix but it is better.

I also turned the mains down completely and the volume did drop during practice. With mains up and an empty house we were running low 90s. Put 100 people in there and it will be even better (although I've learned that 100 people create their own volume too).

This is off topic some but I do have a minor buzz coming from the mixer that I don't think we had before. If I use the "mute all channels" button it goes away but if I mute all of the individual channels then the buzz is still there. I plan on unplugging each input one by one to isolate. It isn't a 60 cycle hum so it might be hard to find. To reconfigure I had to use a trs to xlr adapter and then an xlr to trs adapter. I wonder if they are part of the problem.

Another update: the buzz was from the dimmer switch it appears. I think it has always been there but the new configuration made it much worse. I put some transformers after the mixer in the configuration and it took care of it. First Sunday service shows great improvement. I can hear the bass player now more distinctly than before. Much clearer. The overall volume wasn't lower on the meter but it sounded lower. The guitar players both have said that their sound is too trebly (sp?) now. Need to work on that some but the over all sound was better. I may try isolating the bass amp yet from the stage since that is also something easy to try. Thanks for your help!

just remind everyone that the congregation needs priority in sound quality and fold-back monitoring is for pitch and time reference only. They should sound 'warm' but not 'deep.'
They'll get used to it.

What is warm? How would you explain warm without hearing it?
