Drum Sound Shield I am not a drummer myself, but am trying to find a sound shield for the new drums we just ordered. Can anyone give any recommendations on size, brand, or know a place to get one that is reasonably priced? They seem awfully expensive for plastic. Anyone ever used drumperfect.com? Thanks.

I second (or third or fourth...) Clearsonic. If you're super handy and resourceful and have a lot of time on your hands, you can search the forums for how to make them yourself. But it was a better use of our resources to just buy from Clearsonic. Dave's correct... you need absorption panels as well if you want to lower volume.

One Little Thing The guys here are right on. I'll just mention one little thing I came across: The purpose of a drum shield isn't to make the drums any quieter, but to improve isolation. Other signals in the drum mics, and in smaller venues especially, drums in the vocal mics. That said, we've been using a shield for about a year, and it made more of a difference than I expected in the projected-out stagevolume of the kit. The folks on the front row heard an immense difference. But more than than I got good isolation. So it was a win-win on all fronts for us. We have luck with just the five-panel Clearsonic shield and then absorber behind the kit. It does its job well and yet isn't terribly obtrusive. sk

We use ClearSonic drum shield and sorber panels. The sorber panels absorb sound from behind the drummer and also we use small panels near the bottom of the clear shield. You may want to look at this link http://www.clearsonic.com/IsoPacC.htm It will also depend on your church budget.
