I would agree with keeping the amp at the stage end of the snake but will add that it will need to be in an area that has good air flow; preferably one with air-conditioned air flow. I would place the EQ in a rack in the sound booth between the mixer and the snake sends. Alternately, if your board is capable of it, use the insert jacks on the aux sends to patch in the EQ(s). This way, you can take a line straight from the mixer into the snake. Generally, mixers put out slightly higher voltage levels than rack gear does. That would help to prevent any signal degradation over your snake run. You don't say how long your snake is, but if it's 100ft or less, that signal degradation issue wouldn't really matter at that short of a distance.
