to further complicate or simply, depending on your outlook, you can also use speakon nl4 4 pole connectors. I wired our stage this way. We have two separate mixes available at each speakon location depending which physical cabinets are plugged in. Each mix is connected through an eq then to an amp. The two amp outputs (4 wires) are present at all speakon connectors in the floor pockets.

We have two cabinets which are for mix A and two for mix B. We use only one type of speakon 4 conductor cable. The speakers select which mix they receive by the way they are wired. Pretty foolproof since you can't hook up more than two speakers on each channel AND both mixes are available in every pocket AND and the thru connector on each cabinet.

Make sense? It has cleaned up a lot of extra cables on the stage.

ps just re-read the question about how to hookup multiple pockets to an amp. The simple and effective way is to use wire nuts. Home run all the wiring from each pocket to a spot near the amp and then just wire nut them all together keeping polarity correct. I use 12 ga speaker wire from West Penn.
