[CONVENTION 2008] hotel options

to keep the roomies thread from turning into a discussion on hotels, I wanted to start a new thread.

Ya'll help me out here... What do you want in a hotel? Would it be better to find one Hotel that is mid praiced (around $90 a night) that everybody can stay at, or find one that is closer to $60 for those that want a budget option, and then find one for those wanting the fancy perks that might be over $100 a night?

The microtel is only 1.5 miles away from the church, and from what I can tell is new and clean. They do have wifi.

the next level above that would be the Fairfield inn, and byond that we have a courtyard by marriot, and a hampton.

How important is it to have everybody in the same place, or at least close to each other?

follow this link to check out the location of the microtel... if you follow Motley drive down to Gus Thomasson, you will see the church at that intersection.

Is Continental Breakfast an Option? Would they Consider providing basic shuttle service to and from your church if we get aa certain number of rooms? How many rooms do we need to book to get a better rate?

As far as "how nice" it needs to be, as in past years, I assume I'll be spending most of my time with CMN'ers and very little time in my room, so a decent bed and a clean bathroom would be all I really need.

yeah, a hotel with a shuttle service would be nice for the out of towners..
I'm not sure how "big" we have to go to get that, but I bet it's alot bigger than a 40 room microtel, but I'll ask anyway.

that sounds like a question for the hampton and the courtyard.

It's only 1.5 miles. That could be walking distance for some of us.

And it looks like it provides a continental breakfast. Although, I've stayed at Microtels and haven't been impressed with their continental breakfast. But I'm not really a "continental" breakfast kinda guy.

Mark, quick question. How far is your church from downtown Dallas in terms of distance & travel time (or wherever visitors might like to go in the area - years since I've been there myself). Any public transit available into the city? (If so, close proximity to public transit could be very helpful). Asking for the sake of family interests if someone's interested in coming along. Thx --Teresa

Here's the link to google maps for Mark's church, if that helps. You should be able to get Directions to from there.

Woot! Dallas is an area covered by Google Transit. Here is a sample trip itinerary (3 options) from the Microtel on Sorrento Drive to the Museum of Nature and Science.

Any comments on the safety and ease of usage of DART (Dallas Area Rapid Transport)?

dart does NOT go into mesquite...sorry..i wish it did

you can get into downtown dallas in 10-15 minutes from the church, it's not far at all.

I'll eventually start a thread where we can discuss the sites and attractions of dallas.

i visited two hotels today, I would have taken pics, but the brouchure looks just like it, so i didn't bother.

This is the brouchure for the microtel. I found it to be very clean, and the building was built in 2000, so it's fairly new.

the manager wrote the prices on the card.
$42.95 for a room with one queen bed
$59.95 for two queen beds
$64.95 for a suite which is one queen, a sleeper sofa, and a microwave and refrigerator

I'm a little more high maintenance than Phil, i need a shower as well as a bed.

I'm fine with staying at the Microtel.

I also visited the days inn too. they are about $60 a night, and their rooms have two queen beds with fridges and microwaves, which is something the microtel does not have. I'll post pics of that place soon

it's 2.5 miles away from the church
